Placenta Encapsulation now Available!

The newborn mother deserves just as much care and attention as the newborn baby; she too has just been born.
Did you know . . . .
Humans are the ONLY mammal that do not consume the placenta after birth? Your animals know the nutrients will help the mama!
The Benefits:
Your body just went through the biggest hormonal change it will ever undergo in life! Your baby’s placenta contains your own natural hormones and is perfectly made for you! Learn the benefits . . . .
-Can prevent & lessen the risk of postpartum depression (the amazing corticotropic hormone is made in the placenta in the last trimester! When the placenta is birthed, mom's storage of this hormone dips sharply)
-Replenishes iron through hemoglobin hormone & helps prevent postpartum anemia, increasing energy & decreasing fatigue/depression
-Contains oxytocin - this hormone decreases pain naturally, is produced during breastfeeding to increase bonding, counteracts the production of stress hormones, & gives a euphoric feeling
-Provides human placental lactogen (HPL) hormone to stimulate prolactin, which establishes healthy milk supply & regulates maternal glucose, protein, & fat levels for fetus
-Replenishes estrogen, progesterone, & testosterone which help with mammary gland development for lactation, stabilizes mood
-Replenishes interferon hormone which stimulates the immune system to help prevent infection and bleeding
-Contains prostaglandins which helps regulating contractions in the uterus & helping uterus return to size
-Contains cortisone which combats stress & unlocks energy stores
-Replenishes B vitamins & energy used in labor
- and so much more!

The placenta can continue to nourish mom and baby through times of transition throughout the entire lifespan. There is no other medicine created by your body, made specifically for you or your child. Ingesting one's placenta comes with many benefits. The benefits of placentophagy are supported by ongoing research but have not been evaluated by the FDA.
The Process:
Consultation and Planning:
We discuss your preferences, address any questions, and explain the encapsulation methods. I will also coordinate pickup arrangements based on your birth plan from your birth location (hospital, birthing center, or home). I follow strict safety protocols to ensure proper handling and transport. (Note: If you are outside of Auglaize, Shelby or Mercer County, there is a $15 pick-up fee. Contact me to see if you are in my pick-up area!)
After inspection and cleansing, your placenta is lightly steamed in blended herbs using the Gentle Method under Traditional Chinese Medicine preparation prior to dehydration. In this method I use tonifying herbs and oils such as lemon, ginger, peppers, frankincense and myrrh. If you wish to use the raw method, we will determine the pros and cons of this at your consultation.
After steaming, the placenta will be dehydrated and turned into powder form. From there the powder is made into capsules, tinctures, & salves, as requested, to aid in the postpartum period. The capsules are securely packaged, labeled, and delivered to you within 2–4 days after birth. I am available for any follow-up questions as you begin taking your capsules.
As a Placenta Encapsulation Specialist (PES) I must adhere to strict guidelines for safely preparing placentas. I follow all OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens guidelines and Food Safety Preparation for the State of Ohio.

This must sit for a minimum of six weeks to cure before straining and using and is best stored in a dark cabinet while it cures. Used in times of trauma, transition, emotional distress, menstruation & menopause or just to extend the benefits when your pills are all consumed past the initial postpartum period. Mothers have noted that it assists with headaches, milk supply, cramps, insomnia, muscle cramps, & reduced libido. It can be saved for daughter’s menstruation & for teething, stress, & immune boost for baby.

Frequently Asked Questions!
Can I encapsulate my placenta if I deliver in the hospital or birth center?
-
Yes, you can. Discuss with your primary care provider your wish to take your placenta home
-
with you and be sure to have any signed releases completed before delivery.
What if I am group B positive, will I still be able to encapsulate my placenta?
-
Yes, you are still able to encapsulate your placenta. Please let me know if this occurs as the placenta will be washed in apple cider vinegar before beginning the dehydration process under the Gentle TCM method.
What if I receive medications such as Pitocin or an epidural? Can I still encapsulate my placenta?
-
Most medications administered during pregnancy are safe for encapsulation. The amount still in the placenta after encapsulation is very small, if present at all, and pose no threat to the mother or baby. When medications pass through the placenta, they are filtered out very quickly. Steaming the placenta using the Gentle TCM method is thought to make any medication ineffective. However, if you have concerns, we can research the drugs parameters.
Can I encapsulate if the baby has meconium?
-
Yes, you are still able to encapsulate your placenta. Please let me know at the time of picking up. The placenta will be washed in apple cider vinegar before beginning the dehydration process and processed under the Gentle TCM Method.
What if I am running fever during labor?
-
This is going to depend on the reason for the fever. The best way to know if your placenta is safe for consumption, is pathology. They can cut a small piece of the placenta and have it tested. If the placenta is infected, you will not be able to encapsulate.
How do I let you know I am in labor or delivered in the middle of the night?
-
At your consultation and planning meeting we will discuss notification details for this!
How do I store my placenta for pickup from the hospital, birth center, or home?
-
Bring a Styrofoam or otherwise disposable cooler (they have the perfect sized cooler at Dollar Tree) and two gallon sized Ziplock baggies with you to the hospital or birth center. Write your name and information on the outside bag. The placenta will be placed in the baggies, then into the cooler, and covered in ice. The hospital has ice machines on all L&D floors for you. Please do not use a hard side cooler.
What do I do if I'm unsure if I want to encapsulate my placenta but take my placenta home?
-
You can have your support person take the placenta home. You will have a window of 72 hours to decide. If you are still not sure, then put the placenta in 2 Ziplock baggies and store it in the deep freezer. It will be good for up to 6 months, however the nutrients may be less effective than if immediate processing.
Do I let the hospital hold my placenta until the encapsulation specialist picks it up?
-
No. It is best that your support person or a family member holds onto the placenta and make sure it stays in their possession at all times to be sure there is no cross-contamination.
How long will it take for my placenta to be picked up?
-
This depends on the distance away from the hospital and your notification to me. Typically, within 4 hours of delivery.
What is the process for encapsulating my placenta?
-
I use the Gentle Traditional Chinese Method which balances the Yin and Yang and provides warmth and energy for the postpartum mother. TCM focuses on balancing the body's energies with herbs and water while being steamed. The herbs used are: lemon which has an antiseptic property and helps the placenta move through the body, ginger and peppers - warming agents that help energize you along with Frankincense and Myrrh. Once the placenta is ready it will be cut into pieces and then put into the hydrator for several hours and then ground it into a fine powder and put it into the capsules.
Extras:
-
The tincture is prepared by pouring gluten-free vodka, a small piece of the raw placenta into the 4 oz. bottle.
-
The salve is a combination of organic oils, herbs, and placenta powder infused to create an incredibly soothing skin balm and put in a 4 oz. tin.
-
The placenta prints are prepared before processing the placenta, so it is able to showcase the "tree of life".
How long does it take to get my placenta?
-
This can take anywhere from 48 to 72 hours to get it prepared.
How many capsules will I get?
-
Typically, the placenta could yield around 70 to 400 depending on the size and method of preparation and if tinctures or salves are also requested. Multiples will yield more.
How do I take my capsules and what do I do with any leftover capsules?
-
You will receive dosage directions with your products.
-
Any left-over capsules should be placed in a deep freezer until consumed (remove the desiccants (moisture absorption) packet and place it in a Ziplock bag).
